Georgetown Just Hosted the Caribbean's Shipping Leaders. In March, It Hosts Road Safety.

The Caribbean Shipping Association held its 56th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition in Georgetown this week — its first time in Guyana. Five months later, the same city hosts a different kind of transport gathering.

The Caribbean Shipping Association closed its 56th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition on 28 October at the Guyana Marriott Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown — the first time the regional body has held its flagship gathering in Guyana. The event ran from 25 to 28 October under the theme of building a more connected, resilient and competitive Caribbean, and included a Caribbean Ministerial Meeting alongside sessions on port modernisation, digital transformation and supply-chain resilience.

Guyana's Office for Investment promoted the gathering under the line that everyone in Caribbean shipping was talking about Guyana that week, and the Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Hon. Deodat Indar, attended the opening session.

A different transport sector, the same city, five months on

Maritime and road transport rarely share a stage, but this October they shared a city. On 9 and 10 March 2027, Georgetown's Arthur Chung Conference Centre hosts Beyond the Wheels 2.0, a Transportation and Road Safety Summit convened by Clarke’s Productions Inc. Where the CSA's AGM gathered shipping lines, port authorities and regional ministries around cargo and connectivity, Beyond the Wheels 2.0 gathers government, fleet operators, insurers and chambers of commerce around road safety, defensive driving and regulatory reform — a parallel set of questions about how people and goods move, asked of a different part of the same transport system.

Two major transport gatherings, five months apart, in one Caribbean capital. Different cargo, different stakeholders, the same underlying question: how a developing economy moves safely and reliably as its traffic grows.

The Summit closes with a National Road Safety Declaration, signed by participating institutions, operators and government agencies — Beyond the Wheels 2.0's own answer to the connectivity and resilience questions the CSA's delegates spent four days discussing at sea level.
