From 10 to 14 January 2027, the Transportation Research Board — a unit of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine — holds its Annual Meeting at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis in Washington, DC. More than 13,000 delegates are expected across every mode of transport, drawn from government, academia and industry: the largest gathering of transportation professionals anywhere in the world.
A different scale, not a different conversation
It would overstate things to call the TRB Annual Meeting a peer of Beyond the Wheels 2.0. One is a global research congress running on the scale of a small city; the other is a national summit for Guyana, built around nine tracks and a signed declaration. The honest comparison is not of size. It is of subject: road safety, fleet management and the logistics corridors that move goods sit inside TRB's programme in Washington exactly as they sit inside the nine tracks Beyond the Wheels 2.0 runs in Georgetown.
Thirteen thousand people in Washington in January, discussing roads, safety and logistics at research scale. A smaller room in Georgetown in March, discussing the same three things at national scale. Same subject, different altitude.
Two months apart on one calendar
TRB's Annual Meeting closes on 14 January 2027. Beyond the Wheels 2.0 opens on 9 March 2027, at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Georgetown — eight weeks later, on the same transportation calendar, at a scale built for Guyana rather than the world.
